About Blog Digests
When I realized how much time I lost each day reading my favorite blogs I knew I had a problem. After searching the web for possible solutions I realized the commonly suggested "trim the fat" solution just wouldn't cut it in my case. I knew there had to be a better answer.
Since I subscribe to a number of majordomo based mailing lists I was already familiar with the concept of a "digest." I wondered if the basic principles could be applied to a web-based newsreader. After some research and tinkering the earliest known version of Blog Digests was born.
Blog Digests is a work in progress so please take the machine based digest posts with a grain of salt while I work to fine tune the system. New! Blog Digests uses AJAX! All AJAX functions use the very handy XHConn library. In supplement to the "feed crawler" I've added an AJAX based crawl/refresh to help keep feeds from going "stale." We've also added some jquery based JavaScript to display images namely thickbox, really cool stuff. Our crawler now features new logic, it's now crawling based on our rankings data.
Shout-outs go to people behind Odin Assemble, OSWD, Open Web Design, PHP and Technorati, without you guys Blog Digests would not be possible.
