Serbia has a new government!

Posted Tuesday July 8, 2008, 4:34 am, Over one day old
It took just 57 days, which by Serbian standards is pretty quick. In order to make it work, they had to pass a Law on Government authorizing a whopping 28 Ministers or Ministry-level positions… it was the only way they could keep all coalition members satisfied. The new PM is Mirko Cvetkovic.

Media pluralism in the EU and *cough* responsible blogging

Posted Tuesday July 8, 2008, 4:34 am, Over one day old
In this context the report points out that the undetermined and unindicated status of authors and publishers of weblogs causes uncertainties regarding impartiality, reliability, source protection, applicability of ethical codes and the assignment of liability in the event of lawsuits.

Beach reading: Postwar, by Tony Judt

But they were intuitively appealing to men and women who had lived through the terrible decades since 1914, and in certain parts of Western Europe social democracy by the mid-sixties was no longer so much a politics as a way of life. “A practice in lifelong search of a theory”, ha.

Horrible European Surveillance Proposals

Posted Thursday July 3, 2008, 4:47 am, Over one day old
It looks like the French government, having failed to impose an awful record-industry inspired snooping act at home, is trying to policy-launder it through the European Union. But since when has EU-sponsored mass telecoms snooping and censorship been the policy of the Conservative Party?

Kosovar independence in the General Assembly

Posted Wednesday July 2, 2008, 4:03 am, Over one day old
There is some overlap, of course, as some countries have more than one reason to not recognize. But it’s possible to distinguish between countries that are really worried about the legal issues, and those to whom it doesn’t much matter one way or the other.

Kosovo and the UNSC

Posted Tuesday July 1, 2008, 6:34 am, Over one day old
Other candidates may yet step forward — the elections aren’t until October — but since the majority of Western European countries support Kosovar independence, right now it looks like those seats will cast “yes” votes.

European demographics in the NY Times

They’re going about it methodically, and the first steps have already been taken:?We said to the government of Saxony-Anhalt,?Shrinkage is a completely new phenomenon,?? Beeck and Gröger walked with me through an area where a whole street had been turned into a grassy sward.

Well? blah

Posted Sunday June 29, 2008, 7:33 am, Over one day old
A championship that ends in a bland 1-0 game does tend to affirm certain prejudices about this sport. And after the wild craziness of Germany-Croatia, Germany-Turkey, or Russia-Netherlands… Oh, well, it was a fun two weeks anyhow. Congratulations to our Spanish friends!
