Of course headlines are important, that's why I focus on them first

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:31 am, Over one day old
Okay not my best headline, but it's true. The reason that titles are so darn important is because of how we scan information and make snap decisions on whether to dig into a story further or not.

Why don't newspapers own local? Because they don't publish online with RSS

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:31 am, Over one day old
Greg Linden makes a great point here (as do others).  Newspapers, especially small local ones, don't own local news like they should. Newspapers have remarkable content on businesses and events in their communities. They should be the authoritative source for local.

Social Media, the Fortune 500, and the future

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:31 am, Over one day old
Michael Gartenberg gives some excellent advice on corporate blogging (it all sounds familiar, but hey it's all good stuff) Josh with usual wisdom, though he seems to be off Skype today, points out that accepting social media into your company requires a shift not in IT, but culture.

Blu-ray is sunk, HD-DVD will win the format war

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:31 am, Over one day old
Okay, like SGKnox said, it doesn't matter where you stand on porn, it is a huge business.  So when I caught the SGKnow post, I had to agree?Sony has yet again blown it.

MSM, get blog or get out of the way

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:31 am, Over one day old
One of the hot topics coming out of CES this year is the role of the blogger as media.  Blogger as journalist.  BlogHaus was a hopping place.  I've seen it called a cool place to hang out and the real press room.  There are also detractors.  Teresa puts down her thoughts on the BBS blog:

Mary Hodder Dabbles with hotness

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:31 am, Over one day old
This is exactly what my Masters adviser did for all of his students.  Trust me, the practice runs were brutal, so when the real thing came, I knew I could handle all the tough questions and it was a cake walk.  This is a video worth watching.

Last nail in the coffin for newspapers

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:32 am, Over one day old
Shel is right.  Newspapers have had it.  Ancient distribution system (it hasn't changed in what 200 years?), information that is already "known" by the time we get the paper. What's the alternative?  It's already here. But what about The Scoble Show and the Edwards campaign, you may ask.

Apple shilling vapourware? Valleywag making sense?

Posted Tuesday January 16, 2007, 4:32 am, Over one day old
Yup, by dropping the "Computer" part of their name, they are just like every other consumer electronics company.  From now on we'll see new products come out for Christmas and announced at CES (I wonder if MacWorld will move to Vegas in 2008?).
