So it was with some trepidation I sat in the (very nice) planetarium at DSC while Todd Slisher (the VP of science shows) introduced the show. While I was there I also gave two talks at the DSC, and another at the nearby Cranbrook Institute of Science, and they all went pretty well.

Mars has two dinky moons, Phobos and Deimos. There have been hi-res images of Phobos taken in the past, but none like this! There have been more detailed images taken in the past, but these collected more light from the tiny moon and so have better quality.

It’s a funny interview (duh), but Jon does get one thing wrong: he says LHC will make anti-matter that will gobble the Earth, when he really meant a quark nugget or strangelet might be made which will gobble the Earth.

This time it’s a crater that has, of all things, terraced walls. This may indicate that ice under the surface was vaporized upon impact, then condensed and rained back down, eroding the crater walls.
