What day should the live video chat be?

Posted Tuesday February 26, 2008, 2:08 pm, Over one day old
I have now done two live video chats, both of which were fun and successful. So I want to start doing this on a weekly basis. Pretty much any day of the week is easy for me, but I have a global audience, so I figure why not ask? If you are not a BAUT user, registration is fast, easy, and free.

Another addition for your skeptic toolkit

Posted Tuesday February 26, 2008, 2:08 pm, Over one day old
I love optical illusions. Pareidolia is a personal favorite, of course, but I also like simple illusions that fool us. We know that of course, but what these researchers found is that under some circumstances, our brains make things up as filler more often depending on context.

A wiki of lies

Posted Monday December 10, 2007, 4:55 pm, Over one day old
This is a strength and a weakness of wikis: the obvious weakness is that anyone with an agenda can vandalize (either grossly or subtly) a page, but it’s also a strength because the community tends to catch such things.

Happy Hubble Holidays!

Posted Monday December 10, 2007, 4:55 pm, Over one day old
Maybe a hawk would have been a better choice for the silhouette. | | Or maybe it’s all part of the subtle War on Christmas : all the cards say "holiday" and "season", and not Christmas. Maybe they should have a Hubble picture of the Star of Bethlehem?

Take a ride on the Redding

Posted Monday December 10, 2007, 4:55 pm, Over one day old
Calling Bart Sibrel and his ilk "legitimate investigators" is really, really funny. Funny, but what I presented were not only facts, but reproduceable experiments you can do at home (I modeled a moving flag by blowing on my belt, then swinging it back and forth: some propaganda!).

Florida: The Dooming Continues

Posted Monday December 10, 2007, 4:55 pm, Over one day old
Chris Comer did not make any statement about evolution other than to tell people that a talk was being given about Intelligent Design, but was forced to resign by fundamentalists in power in the Texas Education Agency.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I hosted the Carnival of Space? The new one (#32) is now up at Robot Guy, and has lots of good links to keep you busy while NASA postpones the Shuttle launch again.

Texas creationists: the story that keeps on giving

Posted Thursday November 29, 2007, 2:04 pm, Over one day old
Without any expert input whatsoever, a single person (chosen by a Board of Education with decidedly creationist leanings) gets to decide not only what is science and what isn’t, but also decide this for all the public school students in the state.
