Jason Calcanis on ads in RSS feeds

Posted Thursday June 15, 2006, 1:05 am, Over one day old
"Very simple question: If you're not willing to have ads in your RSS feed are you going to be willing to pay for the content you get? Most of the feeds I read today don't have ads, so it's hard to see how the train has left the station.

A roadmap for my work on OPML reading lists

Posted Friday April 21, 2006, 6:00 am, Over one day old
Now, as UserLand has been focusing on Manila, the aggregator has been more or less ignored, but it's still a good piece of software, so I'm working on a project with the guys at UserLand to bring it back into circulation.

Next steps in RSS, Reading Lists

Posted Friday April 21, 2006, 6:00 am, Over one day old
I've been working on an podcasting client that runs inside the OPML Editor. Reading lists are OPML documents that point to RSS feeds, like most of the OPML documents you find, but instead of subscribing to each feed in the document, the reader or aggregator subscribes to the OPML document itself.

Editorial: Google diversifies, opportunity for upstarts

Posted Friday April 21, 2006, 6:00 am, Over one day old
It's as if they have become the executive who told Larry and Sergey: "As long as we're 80 percent as good as our competitors, that's good enough. They've left too much opportunity for their competitors, and as with Alta Vista, the current crop appears too dumb to capitalize on the opportunity.

If you find an aggregator you like better than My.Yahoo, they say go ahead and leave us. If this is to work, every vendor has to acknowledge that they're not the first or last aggregator, and that it's reasonable to assume that a user might want to use more than one aggregator.

About Google's blog search, one day later...

Posted Friday April 21, 2006, 6:00 am, Over one day old
One day later, here's the net-net on Google's blog search... When I'm going to look stuff up, I'm going to go to Google. I don't need a blog search engine. And every feature I want in their blog search engine is already implemented by the one I use every day, Google.
