K-12-helpful apps for the iPhone?including BookShelf. Audiobook-PDF possibilities as well?

Posted Tuesday July 22, 2008, 11:59 pm, Over one day old
Tantor offers both audio CDs and MP3 CDs, so I’m assuming it wouldn’t be that big a hassle to transfer the books to the iPhone via iTunes (no mention of DRM). | | One big K-12 advantage of the iPhone over the Kindle: Kids love color screens.

Just two months or so from now. | | Built around Firefox | | The real app will be Firefox, but wouldn’t it be great if TC’s Michael Arrington could talk the browser people into doing a decent e-book act—with ePub as the featured format?

Also, the app is free and will let you insert photos. Detail: I don’t know if OtterBox is advertising the Touch version with the right photo. | | –As for waterproofing, I suspect the plastic bag trick will work just fine in the bathtub and let you read better than with E Ink.

The batteries and the display case are manufactured and put together in China. The E Ink display will run out of power in 90 days. | | Still a plus, as I see it | | That said, I’m glad Esquire is diong the Ford-sponsored cover, for the September issue, if it calls attention to the technology.

DRM-related poll: How many devices do you use to read e-books?

Posted Thursday May 22, 2008, 9:10 pm, Over one day old
| | | | How many devices do you use to read e-books? One of the biggest challenges of DRM is the that e-books are often licensed for use on just a limited number of devices—a real issue for me as a Mobipocket user. Mobipocket.com lets me register a mere four devices.

1 cent for a p-book, $3.99 for ?shipping? and $0 to author Kim Robinson, alas: DRM as a sales toxin

Posted Thursday May 22, 2008, 9:10 pm, Over one day old
Same at the Amazon-owned Mobipocket store. | | But Bantam Books and/or Robinson apparently insist that FW sell only a "protected" version. Just how many books would you like to rent while supposedly "buying" them?
