ATLANTA (AP) - The construction of a coal-fired power plant in southwest Georgia has been effectively halted by a judge who says the plant's builders must first obtain a permit from state regulators that limits the amount of carbon dioxide emissions.

A woman and her son were hurt when someone fired shots into their home early Monday morning. It happened on Scio Street just after 12:30 a.m. Police say Iris Denisad, 48, and her son Osgaldo Vasquez, 27, were inside their home when someone fired shots from their backyard through a window.
