Helping your client maintain markup quality

Posted Friday October 12, 2007, 2:52 am, Over one day old
If you spend enough time working on it (or are one of the few lucky ones to use a CMS + WYSIWYG editor combo that enforces it) you may be able to ensure that the HTML on the site stays valid. Well, one idea is to make any errors or suspicious markup obvious to the person working on the document.

Posted Monday November 12, 2007, 2:53 am, Over one day old
The above were serious enough that after spending many hours trying and failing to get my local web development stuff up and running again, I told myself to get over it and switch back to Tiger. If there is data that you cannot afford to lose on the disk, make sure you have a reliable backup.

Several tools that help troubleshooting CSS are available. XRAY lets you inspect the properties of any element on the page by opening a floating palette that displays the element type, id, class, position, size, border, margin, and padding of any element you click on.

Adobe Spry 1.6 improves standards support, adds progressive enhancement

Posted Monday October 22, 2007, 2:53 am, Over one day old
In January this year I complained about Adobe Spry and obtrusive, inaccessible JavaScript. I didn't expect things to change and dismissed Spry as something that can't be used in the real world, at least not if you care about Web standards and accessibility.

Overdoing accessibility

Posted Monday December 17, 2007, 2:55 am, Over one day old
