The dilemma of comments

Posted Thursday September 20, 2007, 2:51 am, Over one day old
Once upon a long time (4.5 years) ago, when I started this blog, there was no way of posting comments. On the one hand it would make writing and publishing much easier. Managing comments eats up a lot of time that I would rather spend researching and writing new articles.

JavaScript interaction must be input device independent

Posted Tuesday August 21, 2007, 2:03 pm, Over one day old
For some reason it is common to see otherwise nice uses of JavaScript made inaccessible by developers forgetting that not everybody uses a mouse (or some other pointing device). But focus is not placed on other elements, even if they have an event handler assigned to them.

456 Berea Street highlights of 2007

I always run into one or two that I had almost forgotten about. Use the label element to make your HTML forms accessible : By using the label element to associate form controls with their label text, you improve the accessibility of HTML forms and make styling and scripting them easier.

NoSquint allows site-specific text zoom

Posted Friday October 5, 2007, 2:52 am, Over one day old
NoSquint remembers your text zoom level per site, so you will only need to adjust text size once for each site that uses text that is too small for your eyes. It also lets you set the default zoom level and adjust by how much text size is increased each time you hit Ctrl/Cmd - +.

Designing Interfaces (Book review)

Posted Wednesday September 26, 2007, 2:52 am, Over one day old
One way of learning more about those subjects is to read Jenifer Tidwell's excellent book Designing Interfaces. This makes it Designing Interfaces work not just as a book to read from cover to cover, but also as a handy reference to turn to when you run into a certain problem.

Help improve support for Web Standards in HTML email

Posted Tuesday September 11, 2007, 2:51 am, Over one day old
I absolutely hate HTML email. I hate receiving it, I hate sending it. As long as support for Web Standards in email clients is as crappy and unpredictable as it currently is, well I'm sorry, but I'm not going back to nested layout tables and spacer GIFs just to create an email.

Make sure your website works with or without www

Posted Tuesday February 12, 2008, 2:58 am, Over one day old
But it really surprises me how often typing in a domain name without "www." in front results in one of the following: I do however think that it makes a really bad impression when any of the above happens when you try to access an organisation's website without typing "www.".
