See You Later

Posted Thursday June 26, 2008, 1:47 pm, Over one day old
Tomorrow is my last day at my first, real job. Until this week, I’d been giddy about leaving the job and starting the new one, about working just one job and working from home all but one day a week. I hope that possibility is enough to help me leave without more tears tomorrow.

Hello Goodbye

Posted Tuesday June 17, 2008, 1:40 pm, Over one day old
I’m not connected by blood to half the people I call mine, but who is a family but the people who share a past and a present and a future, people who can make you choke back laughter even at a funeral and, not 10 minutes later, swallow tears instead?

Second Honeymoon

Posted Tuesday June 3, 2008, 11:39 am, Over one day old
Though we missed our animals back home, we hated to leave this little sanctuary of fun, this pocket of time when the haze of stress and household clutter cleared enough to see how much we really love each other, how we actually can be - in spite of all appearances - on the same wavelength.

The Kaldron

Posted Friday May 23, 2008, 1:12 pm, Over one day old
These yearbooks hint at all the ways 1914 (and 1924) teens were just like teens today - silly, competitive, obsessed with appearance - and all the ways they were different … the boys are wearing suits in shop class, for goodness sake! Maybe they will delight you, too: The Kaldron Yearbooks

Stanley: The Continuing Saga

Posted Thursday May 15, 2008, 11:32 am, Over one day old
On my last post about Stanley the Charming Stray, my sister commented, “are you keeping him? huh?? huh???” The answer is … I still don’t know. When I first met him, he was so downtrodden, and now he already looks so much happier, like he can’t believe his good fortune.

Pet Project

We’re not keeping him.” I said, “Oh, I know, but I just need something to call him.” This morning I went out to feed him and couldn’t find him. “Stanley!” I called, and then I saw him dashing through the trees behind the house.

A Fresh Breeze

Posted Monday May 12, 2008, 11:38 am, Over one day old
It always happens that way for me - I’ll be all in my head obsessed with something, and then I talk (or write) out all the details, and immediately the angst starts dissipating. Friday night: dinner with Eutaw friends. Saturday: a movie (Iron Man - delightful) and then dinner with family.

Whateva, I Do What I Want

Posted Thursday May 8, 2008, 12:01 pm, Over one day old
I only drank enough to make myself sick one time and promptly learned my lesson; I never had a fake ID; I never smoked even one cigarette; and I never tried pot or any other drugs. But over the years, I grew up and mellowed out and felt more confident in our relationship.

The Tide is High

Posted Tuesday April 22, 2008, 1:01 pm, Over one day old
The good news: I’m feeling more at peace about quitting my job. The even better news: I’m going to the beach this week on my final work retreat. Mom and Dad are each working 80 hours a week and eagerly awaiting the day when I can dedicate myself full time to assisting them.

A Change Cocktail

So now is where you say reassuring things - you’ll love working from home, you won’t miss oversleeping every day and being so late you have to put your make-up on in the car, you’ll love the independence, you’re saving the environment by not commuting to work.
