Overcoming the “Tech Deficit” (and helping others to)

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old
How do you get from point A (server in a box) to point B (a bangin’ new website with all the bells and whistles you want) if you don’t even know which operating system should go on the server? From the site: We provide website services for public libraries.

Library Camp ‘06: a brain-dump

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old
It did, and I had a great time. On the subject of open-sourcing code: While I write much of my code modularly so that it can be reused by other people, most of the code behind AADL’s website is highly customized and cannot simply be dropped into place at another site.

HigherEd BlogCon 2006

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old
As a public library person, I’m looking forward to getting a taste of librarianship in higher education. The fact that there is no geographical barrier to attendance really intrigues me and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

III XMLOPAC: findings, promise, and a little relief

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old

Library Camp: Session ideas

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old
Being that the April 14th unconference follows open spaces guidelines, I’m not expecting to get to all, or even most of these topics, but the point is to start thinking about these things beforehand.

Bill and Tim’s Excellent (2.0) Adventure

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old
Every time somebody makes the link on a Web site, and I think it was Scoble who made this point originally, at least in my awareness, they are contributing to a site like Google or any search engine, because it’s the users making links that is the raw material of the whole search Web.

Find the edge, push it

Posted Tuesday May 16, 2006, 5:53 am, Over one day old
I don’t want to speak much on hardware, because that is a bit of a sticky wicket. True, money plays into a lot of these programs, but not always, and not as much as one might expect by looking at the finished product–be wily and get it done right!
