It annoys me to just tell you this…

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
And I will prove it with science: Most people get periodic low blood sugar, which causes mild crankiness. As we all know, thetan levels drop when they get bored–as mine do when I’ve not disabused someone of, what would otherwise have been, a pleasant day.

Darien Library in NYT

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
Not so, and it’s quite good. And I love this:?Libraries see their roles as much more of a cultural gathering place where people come together, kind of like the salons of the French and Victorian coffee houses,? said Darien?s library director, Louise Berry.

Branded!

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
It occurred to me that a branding exercise is not just about a logo as a deliverable, but also a rare opportunity to examine who you are as an institution, your place in the community, and your vision for the future. Over time, a brand begins to convey the things that an institution stands for.

Internet Librarian 2007 Redux

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
Instead of recapping the entire conference (since others have done that far better than I could), I decided to look back over my notes and quote, verbatim, some snippets that stand out: “Look at all these first time attendees!” Indeed there were many.

Camping out in the Big Apple

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
Attendance at Library Camp NYC was quite large ( 100+ people! ) which certainly tested the open spaces concept. I think I enjoyed the final session the most, however, which was a discussion about cataloging and Weinberger ’s Everything is Miscellaneous.

The Information Experience

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
My thought here is that this is, indeed, a one way progression and, at some point, technology diverges from the essence of Library 2.0, though I think we’ll find that technology will always serve to further those principles and without it, Library 2.0 will flounder.

Four Little Octets

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, 4:12 pm, Over one day old
I was trying to make the point that L2 is not all about technology, that a library can be Library 2.0 and unplugged, if it so chose. People are infused through all of these realms in too many ways to count–and not necessarily those that might immediately spring to mind.
