How visited is your house?

Posted Sunday October 29, 2006, 1:20 pm, Over one day old
Through your front door, over your threshold, and into your living space. When you're not expecting visitors you don't tidy up quite so often. You might wonder why I hadn't made a bit more of an effort, especially if you're the type who has to have everything spick and span and 'just so' at home.

July 1991: Find nice flat. September 2006: Still can't be bothered. 3 weeks ago: Oh go on then, I might as well. Dead easy. 2½ weeks ago: Receive lengthy but straight-forward questionnaire to fill in, with a 2 week deadline. 1½ weeks ago: Still procrastinating. 1 week ago: Fill in questionnaire.

Random borough (11, part 3)

Head to the top of Sydenham Hill today and you'll find just the artificial terraces where the Italian Gardens once stood [photo], and a few headless statues [photo], and some stone sphinxes [photo]. "But Mummy, that's not a dinosaur, that's a big fibreglass mammal hanging onto a tree."

I SPY LONDON: London Transport Museum

Posted Saturday December 15, 2007, 8:03 am, Over one day old
If the queues are short enough you might prefer to try driving a tube simulator (a proper real tube simulator, not your usual museum cop-out button-push) but don't stay in there for too long because the rest of us want a go, thanks.

Information pollution

Linkage is now via the walking distances between Canary Wharf Jubilee line station and its two DLR neighbours. There are three stations at West Hampstead, all along the same busy road - one on the Jubilee line, one on the London Overground and one served by First Capital Connect.

2) Use low-energy bulbs instead of candles: You might think that flickering wicks add the perfect eerie ambience to any Samhain seance, but they may instead be harming Mother Gaia's cloud-filled airblanket! Sssh, they might hear you! [got any other Hallowgre'en tips?]

The Gooseberry Tart

Posted Sunday November 11, 2007, 1:57 am, Over one day old
This time they've offered a safe, solid solution with an eye to the future, and reaction has been rather more muted. Once for the opening ceremony (because, you know, it would look wrong if 79999 people held up their special coloured cards and there was a gap in the middle).
