We're Tired of Waiting

Posted Saturday April 19, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
And MMJ comes along, continuing to stretch their own boundaries until the sound less and less like themselves. It's nice to let others do your old work for you, while you strap on your jetpack and blast off into space. This is the sound of a band that knows who they are and what they can do.

Keep it Quiet

Posted Thursday April 17, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
Another facet of the music that I love, both as a DJ and a music fan, is the fact that the line they walk between original sounds and samples feels incredibly blurry - are the songs all new, or are they really crafty re-edits? The sound they have present here is sheer brilliance.

Any Old Lie Will Do

Posted Thursday April 17, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
The point is that I believe every word they say and don't want to stop listening when its over. This new album of theirs, self-titled, is the best thing I've heard all year. And I can guarantee that we'll be hearing from these dudes a lot this year, so we might as well get used to it.

It Used to be called Ursa Major.

Posted Tuesday April 15, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
It's loud enough to start your car in the morning and when you pick the haystack you'll find a bunch of rewarding needles. It's a dense, heavy record, but in the best possible way. The new record is called Free Gold and it will soon be available from our old friends at We Are Free.

Music For Robots interview: Judah Friedlander

Posted Friday April 11, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
Let's be honest: there's no reason I should post this. An interview with actor and comedian Judah Friedlander has nothing to do with music. And while we've done print interviews before, this is, of all things, an audio interview with poor sound quality. Robot David's Judah Friedlander interview.

Chip

Just the beginning of "(And I Was A) Boy From School" from Music Hall of Williamsburg on Tuesday. Man, I love Hot Chip. I've got a handful of photos from Tuesday night's show here too.

Wednesday's outlook: clappy, reverby

Posted Wednesday April 9, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
French Kicks is one of those bands I really like whenever I hear them. I don't know much about them, I just really like them, and they make my day much better. I know this song has been kicking around for a while, but what the hell - your day just got better, right?

Cut Copy giveaway?

Posted Tuesday April 8, 2008, 1:00 am, Over one day old
Almost every song on the record has these distinct, and all really excellent, parts, so a song like "Hearts On Fire" may start out with a synth-pop bounce, but then the ravey pre-chorus comes in, which is followed by a saxophone bridge.

You Don't Have to Say 'I Love You Too'

Posted Monday April 7, 2008, 1:09 am, Over one day old
Lissy Trullie - Self Taught Learner. Lissy Trullie has it. It's being totally sure about what you're saying without being an asshole about it or sounding like you're trying. Again, it's not something I have to worry about - I just want to listen to her songs over and over again.
