The Worm and Tide Turn

Posted Wednesday January 9, 2008, 1:26 pm, Over one day old
It's funny how things have changed. I can't think of one genuine Web 2.0 (and I don't mean the faux Web 2.0 offerings, which try to look and feel like Web 2.0 but, like 40-year old men wearing sneakers and jeans cut a little too trendily for their age, give themselves away easily.

Google Talk as a Contact Database

Posted Wednesday January 9, 2008, 1:26 pm, Over one day old
Outlook is so slow it's horrible and Google Desktop won't really help you since the email address you're looking for, if it appears at all, will be via an email address or something, even if you've set Google Desktop to index your contacts: Google Talk does this much better.

Stumbling Into the Future

Posted Wednesday January 9, 2008, 1:26 pm, Over one day old
What I think will be most interesting, though, is when the screen can adapt to the situation or environment -- a foldable screen that can fit your seat size, expanding when you need it to something much bigger.  Revolt by users over privacy issues.

Heathrow's Old Windows

Posted Wednesday January 9, 2008, 1:26 pm, Over one day old
I know the London hub has its problems, but I didn't realise one of them was that its passenger information system -- or at least part of it -- was running on Windows 95, a 12-year old operating system that has not been supported by Microsoft since 2001.

Keys to the Kingdom

Posted Wednesday January 9, 2008, 1:26 pm, Over one day old
In this week's Loose Wire Service column (which runs in print publications, more here ), I write about those unsung heroes of productivity: programs that store globs of text for you so you don't have to keep typing the same thing. A lot of what we type is the same: Our name.

Tight Angles at 30,000 Feet

Posted Wednesday January 9, 2008, 1:26 pm, Over one day old
I'm sure I'm not the first person to think that economy class seats are getting smaller. This is me trying to do some writing on my ThinkPad when the person in front had her seat in recline mode. It's impossible to lift the screen any higher than this (it's a Malaysian Airlines plane.)

More on Veronica and Fake Flirting

The goal, Sergei says: to gather personal information about users and also to lure them to websites, possibly to infect them with malware (a generic terms for software that infects their computer which can then be used as what is called a bot to grab data, infect other computers or send spam.)

Meet Veronica, Sexy Skype Spammer

Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, 10:50 pm, Over one day old
| Maybe this is commonplace for others, but I've just got my first sex-chat-spam on Skype. I didn't risk having Veronica spam all my friends (not sure how that would work, but I've got some nice people on my list, and I'd hate for them to be upset.)
