Cognitive Styles theories

In my daily practice I have been observing differences in end-user preferences for IT tools since a long time, and the underlying "cognitive styles" have intrigued me ever since. Verbal and analytic are again a little more substitutable (superior?) than wholistic and imagery (p. 58).

Cognitive Burden of Tools?

And I use applications other than the default application for a given file name extension, and therefore I still need to drag file icons onto application icons - which seems to be rather out of fashion after the document centric hiding of tools has become prevalent.

With the Wacko wiki I adopted, indivual tiny pages can be assembled using "include" statements (I can even achieve a rudimentary two-dimensional newspaper-like effect by indenting some of them), and I can set anchors to jump to these included units within their aggregated context.

And the associated kind of understanding which will be fostered and developped by these new tools, could be more compatible to Egan's somatic, mythic, and romantic kinds of understanding and would better allow the necessary coalescence with its predecessors?

Acronyms and blog names

Of course, if they use the name every day as if it were a proper name of their proprietor, they get professionally blinkered and forget that the acronym once had a meaning, which was mostly derived from common appellative nouns.
