Of those that did, easily the scariest looking one is the Matekane Air Strip in Lesotho, a runway so short (1,312 feet) that the small bush planes that take off from there actually fall into a 7,550 couloir before climbing back up the opposite mountainside.

"I show up a the airport and say I forgot my ID, because I have memory loss. Adding a forced ID check as a criterion for granting access to a sterile area is not permitted as it falls outside the search and inspection FOR weapons, explosives, and incendiaries.

Sydney International airport will be the new home of Lonely Planet's first concept store, hosting a wealth of guidebooks, LP branded gear and other hobnobbery catering to a travelers whims. Who knows, there may be a store in your local mall within a year.

If an employee in any other job responded in such a flippant way to a customer complaint, you can be sure he'd be "corrected" by his boss real quick. ] Q: If requiring ID is truly instrumental in keeping the flying public safe, why did it take the TSA until June of 2008 to institute that policy?

At the time, Lamperd was lobbying the Transportation Security Administration to make it mandatory for all airline passengers to wear one, with the thinking that it was the best way to thwart a terrorist.

Baggage carousel ads: coming to an airport near you

For example, you don't see many ads for GI Joes or Depends on Gadling. Double Take marketing unfortunately just figured out that the perfect way to deliver advertisements to a select demographic (business or leisure travelers) is down where you get your luggage.

US airports lose 12,000 laptops every week!

The only time your laptop is out of sight is when you are putting it through security check, or while you're asleep; even then, the sheer quantity of laptops missing is beyond comprehension. What world are you in to forget your laptop at a check point!?

Amsterdam's Schiphol International Airport tries self-service luggage check-ins

O.K., not Heathrow hectic, but depart there at the wrong time and it's not fun. In conjunction with Dutch carrier KLM, this trial, launched yesterday, gives passengers who have checked-in using a self-service kiosk or online to drop off their bags at a machine, Reuters reports.
