Why are Blu-Ray players so slow?

What is even more annoying, you cannot open the disc tray or eject a disc without waiting for the damn machine to boot up, which takes at least 30 - 60 seconds. Would it have been that hard to make the machine able to open and close the tray without waiting for it to boot?

According to this article from TMC.net which doesn’t seem to be spell-checked, BestBuy will be introducing a “Blue-ray” player in the Chinese market in the first half of this year. | | Strangely, the article says that these players are “Blue-ray HD-DVD” players.
