Doctype switching for IE 8

If the switch was reversed, i.e. you'd have to insert the meta element if you wanted IE 7 rendering, it would make a lot more sense to me. I believe that many of the people who argue against the version targeting switch would say "Yeah, that seems like a good idea, let's do that."

Beware of id and name attribute mixups when using getElementById in Internet Explorer

When using getElementById to get a reference to an element via the id attribute, Internet Explorer for Windows (and some versions of Opera) will also match an element whose name attribute contains the same value.

Have your browser crash recently? There are more and more perfectly good desktop apps that should just be made networkable (connectable, viewable and sharable) virtually instead of moving the apps into a browser base. eMail already runs that way and so do many of our calendars.

HTML validation with Safari Tidy

A great extension for Firefox is the HTML Validator extension, which uses Tidy to automatically validate the HTML of every page you open in Firefox. The Safari Tidy plugin works in a similar way to the HTML Validator extension, but it does miss a few features.
