This week I've enjoyed the process of designing our 2006 MakaluMedia Christmas cards, being especially pleased with how quickly the design has moved from inspiration to completion. The Process Here's how I formed the snowflake design with parts of our MakaluMedia logo.

In Adobe Illustrator, I created the card document, then placed the Photoshop-generated background on the base layer, followed by the light blue glow and sandwiched on top by the white snowflake emblem and "Merry Christmas" text.

This paragraph pretty much sums the tone: Star ratings and user comments have long been found on public websites — from Amazon.com to weblogs — but they become much more useful on intranets, where they’re not degraded by the Bozo effect.

Making sIFR Fonts without a $600 copy of Flash

While it doesn't really work for body text, this would be a way to use something other than the same 4-5 fonts we all end up using for headlines, pullquotes and other accent text. | | I've mentioned sIFR before, but haven't ended up implementing it anywhere in production.

Start of "HTML on a prim" programming and parcel URLs (Firefox integration). Backbone is our service infrastructure protocols (HTTP, XML), is scalable, can handle lots of queries per second, and can be changed without downing the grid (more on this in a bit).

John Nack, Senior Product Manager for Adobe Photoshop, unveiled the new icons for the upcoming series of Adobe Products - and boy, can I be any more disappointed. I’m just wondering about the creative process behind the decision to use these new icons.
