Kevin Martin came out against mobile phone consumer rights today at the CTIA Wireless 2008 conference in Las Vegas [ emphasis mine]: In light of the industry?s embrace of a more open wireless platform, it would be premature to adopt any other requirements across the industry.

FCC Definition for Broadband now 768Kbps

According to the FCC, the term “broadband” now means 768Kbps, up from the previous definition of 200Kbps. Under the new definition, “basic broadband” defines download speeds between 768Kbps and 1.5Mbps.

Unlicensed Use of TV Whitespace

There are two bills before the Senate, both introduced on the same day (Feb. 17, 2006), that would, if they became law, make the spectrum of unused TV channels available for use by unlicensed devices, much as we use Wi-Fi today. The Allen, Boxer, Kerry, Sununu bill is the simpler of the two.
