Storm King Art Center

Dotting the landscape here in Mountainville, New York, is a collection of bizarre shapes and interesting shadows. New York resident sculptor Mark di Suvero has several pieces here, such as Mozart’s Birthday and Mother Peace (more info and pictures are available at the Storm King site).

Reboot10 wrap up

We went again to Reboot, with all three of us. Going with 1,5 years old? Although there was a kindergarten, Alexander is still too attached to us, so every morning we would stand in front of the schedule to decide who goes to which session and who is there for the babysitting rounds.

The Atacama Desert (Desert Week)

Mining here hasn’t always been so successful however - the Atacama Desert is littered with the ruins of 170 old abandoned nitrate (or “saltpeter”) mining towns, all of which (bar one) were shut down after the Germans invented synthetic nitrate at the turn of the 20th century.

Petra, an ancient city hewn from the living rock

Completely unknown to the Western world until 1812, this is the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. The Treasury has still seen some serious damage however, not least the clearly visible bullet holes in an urn high up on the structure.

Days Out in Korea

However with the capacity to seat 150,000 people, the Rungado May Day Stadium is the biggest stadium of its kind in the world. 1 Just a few hundred metres away, there’s another massive presidential ego boost - Kim-Il Sung Stadium 2, which can seat a not unimpressive 70,000 people.

National Botanic Garden of Wales

Then, sticking out like a sore thumb is the massive Great Glasshouse of the National Botanic Garden of Wales. If you zoom in close enough you can actually see some of the plant-life that is able to survive here thanks to this massive glass roof.
